Saturation

Fong Tsz Ho

Solo Exhibition

12-27 April 2025

Hidden Space is delighted to present Saturation, a solo exhibition by Fong Tsz Ho, the seventh recipient of our annual Hidden Space Award.

A pulsing soundscape of escalating tension. A narrow antechamber uncomfortably filled with mismatched seating. Beyond it, in a material shift from red painted walls into red light, piles of furniture temporarily arranged and rearranged into structures that might resemble barricades or sprawling nests.

Fong has created an experimental arena for combining sound, colour, making and unmaking. Over the course of the exhibition, he utilises chairs, stools, tables and ladders as interlocking puzzle pieces. In reshaping the environment, both in response to and defiance of the relentlessly discomforting soundtrack, there is the maintenance of agency and balance in the face of alienation. In a moment of crisis where solace can feel elusive, there is resistance and refuge in the crevices.

_______

Fong Tsz Ho (HK) received his BA from the Academy of Visual Arts at the Baptist University of Hong Kong in 2024. His experimental practice utilises sound, found objects and performance to explore themes of instability and tension. Recently, he has been developing field recordings into multi-layered soundtracks and experimenting with site-specific installation.

The Hidden Space Award supports an artist graduating from a BA programme in Hong Kong. The awardee receives a solo exhibition with mentoring, critical, curatorial and installation support to develop their project, plus full venue access for one month prior to the show to work in and re-articulate the space.
